Zaman — Palestinian Music with a Mediterranean Soul

Zaman is a Palestinian band formed in Acre, known for its distinctive blend of Arabic and Palestinian folk traditions with Mediterranean influences. Their sound combines rich acoustic instrumentation, rhythmic guitar-driven arrangements, and expressive Levantine vocals, incorporating elements of flamenco and gypsy rumba to create a style that feels both familiar and contemporary. The band moves naturally between original compositions and reinterpretations of traditional songs, building music around strong melodies, emotional storytelling, and an unmistakable sense of place.

Music & identity

Zaman’s music is built around a meeting point between Palestinian and Arabic musical traditions and the wider sounds of the Mediterranean. Their style combines acoustic instrumentation, rhythmic guitar arrangements, expressive Levantine vocals, and influences from flamenco and gypsy rumba, creating a sound that feels warm, organic, and immediately recognizable. The band moves comfortably between original compositions and reinterpretations of traditional songs, bringing familiar musical ideas into a contemporary setting without losing their character or emotional depth.

A strong part of Zaman’s identity comes from the way their music tells stories. Their songs often explore love, separation, longing, heartbreak, reunion, and the memories that remain between people over time. These themes are expressed through direct, conversational lyrics and melodies that allow the emotion of each song to remain at the center. Rej’eti Eli, for example, revisits the story of an earlier song and transforms its sense of loss into one of reunion and hope, while Sejn Ekhteyari explores a darker emotional space, portraying the feeling of being trapped within one's own memories and choices.

With a history built around memorable songs and a strong connection with their audience, Zaman is now entering a new chapter. Their recent releases revisit the emotional world that made their earlier work resonate while introducing a more contemporary production style. Collaborations with Levantine Music and YT Music Label have expanded the band's visual and international direction, including the production of Rej’eti Eli in Jordan. Alongside new music, the band is developing live performance content, archival social media material, interviews, and new performances in Acre, while looking toward university events, cultural venues, and stages across the region.
