Kokym: The Voice of Fallahi Pop

Kokym is a Palestinian artist who pioneered “Fallahi Pop,” a genre he created by blending alternative Arab pop with rural Palestinian folklore and dialect. Born and raised in the occupied Palestinian village of Jatt Al-Muthalath, Kokym taught himself music at 13. In 2015, he moved to Istanbul to study Arabic music under Syrian maestro Maher Na’ana’a. Since releasing his debut single in 2018, Kokym has dropped over 50 tracks and two EPs, building a powerful presence across Palestine, Jordan, and the Arab diaspora.

From Palestinian Folklore to Modern Pop

Kokym's music is deeply connected to Palestinian identity, but his sound is not limited to traditional music. His approach to Fallahi Pop brings rural Palestinian sounds, colloquial language, alternative pop, and contemporary production together, creating music that can resonate with both audiences familiar with the culture and listeners discovering it for the first time.

His songs have become particularly meaningful within the Palestinian diaspora. Tracks such as “Zaffit El Tahrer” have taken on a wider cultural significance, becoming associated with Palestinian liberation and appearing in demonstrations around the world. Other releases, including “Ya Rayheen Al Quds” and “10/10,” have helped establish his signature sound and expand his audience across Palestine, Jordan, and the wider Arab diaspora.

Beyond his music, Kokym represents a new generation of Palestinian artists using contemporary platforms to preserve, reinterpret, and share their culture. His work challenges the idea that Palestinian music must fit into a single traditional format, instead creating a sound that is playful, modern, personal, and deeply connected to place.

With 10 million+ streams, millions of video views, and more than 300,000 followers, Kokym has developed a significant regional and international audience. His work has also received coverage from outlets including AJ+, BBC, TRT, and Sky News Arabia, helping introduce his unique interpretation of Palestinian pop and folklore to audiences far beyond the region.

Kokym's catalog includes the EPs Kafr El Tuffah and Bayaan Estinkari, as well as a growing collection of singles and collaborations. His music ranges from intimate indie songs exploring life and identity to energetic tracks designed for live performance.

Among his best-known releases are “10/10,” “Zaffit El Tahrer,” “Ya Rayheen Al Quds,” and “Ana Mish American.” His 2025 release “Ana Mish American” serves as the lead single for his first full-length album, marking another chapter in the evolution of his Fallahi Pop sound.
